Many people, especially those who do not improve with prescribed medicine, also try alternative therapies, such as homeopathy, herbs, vitamins, acupuncture, or special diets.
Patients need to be very careful before using any alternative therapies, particularly herbs or other “natural” medicines, such as ginseng, milk thistle, or licorice root.
Such therapies have not been tested as thoroughly as prescription drugs, and some of these substances can harm a weakened liver or can interact with prescribed medications. Please consult with your doctor before taking any types of herbal remedies/alternative medicines.
